Tanya Esqueda is the Assistant Principal of Environmental Charter Middle School – Gardena (ECMS- Gardena). She is an innovative school leader with a passion to guide underserved students to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become life-long learners and productive citizens of their community. Tanya has eight years of experience in secondary charter school administration. She has also worked in collaboration with stakeholders to improve school culture, increase student performance, and build teacher capacity.
Tanya began her career in education as a recent UCLA graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Education studies. It was at UCLA where she developed a desire to be part of the educational reform movement and provide students with broader opportunities to go to college. She began teaching English and Social Studies at the high school level in South Los Angeles. After seven years in the classroom, she became an ELD Specialist and Instructional Coach where she discovered her passion to help teachers improve their practice.
