BA, English, minor in English as a Second Language, Southern Utah University
Michelle McBride joined the Gardena staff in Fall 2014. As a Los Angeles native, she returned home after graduating to begin her teaching career.
Michelle first began as a substitute teacher serving southern Ventura and Northern Los Angeles Counties. From these beginnings she became a full-time teacher at Indian Hills Continuation High School, where she taught for 4 years. From the Hills of Agoura to the City of Watts, the transition to Middle School was made. Having grown up in the inner city, Michelle felt called to return to serve the community that helped form her.
Michelle is a teacher because she feels that the world can be changed in each individual mind of our youth. She wants to help encourage the change we want to see in the world. Michelle feels that serving our community extends beyond the classroom. She volunteers each month at the Long Beach Rescue Mission as well as run a dinner/sock drive each winter for SkidRow residents. She has also dabbled in the art of stand-up comedy. The challenge was to see if she could extend laughter beyond the classroom.
Although a fun hobby, Michelle enjoys the classroom stage more. Her other biggest hobby is in the world of music. She enjoys many different genres of music with her favorite being between Reggae and African. Michelle loves that she has two of the best jobs on earth: Teacher and Mother, each making her better at the other. Michelle feels such a reward to have many student/children and one at home as well.
